Open the Debates!

What have we done? All I hear is how everyone is sick of politics/politicians. Why haven’t we done anything about it? We have been given the power of the vote and we still have unprecedented levels of apathy or disgust towards the political and governmental system. The simple fact of the matter is that we all have a responsibility to change this! We owe it to our children, our families and our country to demand a cease and desist order from the crap that keeps pouring out of Washington. Have you ever asked yourself how these yahoos get elected? And then keep getting elected? Have you ever wished you had a real choice, instead a choice between two evils?

Here is my opinion. There are many, many other candidates out there. There is the Independent Party, the Green Party, and the Libertarian Party, to name a few. All these parties have been formed when there have been fundamental disagreements with the BIG TWO. Whether or not you agree with the positions of these candidates, shouldn’t you be allowed the choice? Why should national media be monopolized by the Republican and Democratic parties? I feel that it is a huge underestimation of the intelligence of the American public. The average American buys a new car every 2 to 3 years and we have so many choices of manufacturers and models. I can choose between 20 or 30 different places to go to lunch on any given workday. Our lives are riddles with choice and we love it! That is the basis of a free market society! That we can get the best products and services for the best prices via competition! Why is government any different?

Our taxes, our social security, our decisions to go to war, our BEST INTERESTS are being outlined by what amounts to a fascist regime! Come on! We need to take control here and demand our right to choose! We need to demand competition in our political arenas in order to get the best services! This is what our country is founded on, freedom of choice. However, when mainstream print and broadcast media only focus on two options, the general public may not know that alternatives exist! When the Commission for Presidential Debates will not allow (or set ridiculous standards for) any other nominee to participate, they are limiting our choices (guess what, they are run by the Democratic and Republican parties). When national polls and surveys don’t even include other party nominees, they are insulting our intelligence.

We need to demand our right to choose. If we have more choices, we can demand change from politics as usual. We have the right and the power. We simply have to do something. We don’t have to continue allowing our lives and futures to be railroaded by the political system as it stands. We, the people, have created a monster in Washington, and it is up to us to bring it down. Go to opendebates.org and sign the petition demanding our right to hear from all the candidates.
